Law enforcers yesterday recovered the body of a missing NGO official from Balu river in Dhaka's Khilgaon area.

The victim, Billal Hossain, 29, was a junior loan officer of microfinance institution ASA's Reazbagh office in Khilgaon, family sources informed.

Locals found the body floating in the river around 10:00am and informed police, said Moshiure Rahman, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station.

Police recovered the body, the OC said, adding that family members identified the body later in the day.

Police suspect that Billal was murdered by strangulation, and his body was dumped in the river by tying bricks to his limbs.

The victim's family members said Billal gathered around Tk 1.30 lakh on Saturday, and was in Badda area till 3:45pm on the day when he last spoke to them, adding that he has been missing since then.

The body of the victim has been kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, while filing of a case in this connection was underway.

A source in the morgue said that the dead body had a stab mark on the abdomen.
