Let youths know about true history of '71
To let the young generation know about the true history of the 1971 Liberation War, more books have to be published, said speakers at a discussion yesterday.
They urged the countrymen to come under a common umbrella, irrespective of professional identities, to uphold the spirit of the war.
The discussion was organised on a book “Muktijuddho: Ajana Addhya” [Liberation War: Untold Story] at Diponpur, a bookshop café named after slain publisher Faisal Arefin Dipon, on the capital's New Elephant Road.
The book features the abduction of freedom fighter Lt Col Abdul Qadir. Picked up by the Pakistani occupation army from his Chittagong house on April 17 in 1971, he never returned.
The remains of his body were recovered from Panchlaish in Chittagong in 2007.
Qadir's son Nadeem Qadir authored the book published by Dipon's publishing house “Jagriti” during Amar Ekushey Granthamela in 2017.
Nadeem said he will continue his journey to establish the true history of the Liberation War.
Addressing the ceremony, Lt Col (retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir Bir Protik stressed the need for unity to present the true history to people.
Writer-researcher Haroon Habib said concerted efforts were in place to taint the history of the war.
Awami League lawmaker Abul Kalam Md Ahasanul Hoque Chowdhury of Rangpur-2 said initiatives have to be taken so that students know about Abdul Qadir's contributions.
Brig Gen DSM Shaheedul Islam of army headquarters also spoke.
