Kuwait again imposed a ban on recruiting workers from Bangladesh yesterday.

The country's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah ordered the ban and its implementation, reports Gulf News quoting Kuwaiti daily Al Jareeda.

The decision came following allegations of irregularities and abuses by traffickers and residency permits for Bangladeshis whose numbers have increased remarkably recently, the daily reports citing a security source.

The abuses were mainly related to the employment of domestic helps despite the existence of strict regulations, the security agencies said.

Kuwait started hiring Bangladeshi workers in 1976 and around 4.8 lakh workers were recruited until 2007, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training. However, Kuwait stopped recruiting Bangladeshi workers in 2007, the reports said.

In 2014, Kuwait lifted the ban. But in May 2016, it was imposed on male domestic helps.
