The Khulna District Administration yesterday primarily declared the district as a beggar-free one.

The district administration with the help of Khulna Divisional Administration raised a fund of around 71,73,510 from different organisations and personal donation, including one day's salaries of government officials in the district, and rehabilitated 3,034 out of 3,497 beggars, said Md Abdus Samad, commissioner of Khulna division, at a programme in Deputy Commissioner's Office.

Rehabilitation of the remaining beggars is under process, said he, urging all to extend support for the initiative.

The district admiration will keep on monitoring so that the rehabilitated beggars would not be able to return to their previous lives, he added.
