The High Court yesterday continued hearing on a petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking bail in a murder case.

The case was filed over causing death of eight people and injuring many others by setting a bus on fire in Chauddagram of Comilla on February 2015.

After concluding the hearing, HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan fixed today for resuming it.

Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain prayed to the HC to grant bail to the BNP chief considering her old age, illness and social status.

The lawyer said she was not involved in the incident and her name was not found in the FIR.

Opposing the bail petition, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that there are specific allegations against her of calling a strike which triggered the incident of killing and injuries.

The Attorney General will continue placing arguments on the petition before the HC today.

The HC started the hearing on the bail petition on Tuesday.

Khaleda has submitted five petitions to the HC seeking bail in five cases after the Supreme Court's Appellate Division upheld Khaleda Zia's HC bail on May 16 in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
