Policeman takes HSC examinee on his bike to drop her at the right exam centre

Following the example of Assistant Sub-inspector Shariful Islam, another policeman showed generosity by helping an HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) student who mistakenly landed in a wrong exam centre in Chittagong city yesterday.

Only 10 minutes were left when Kawsar Jahan, a student of Islamia Degree College, reached Chittagong Government College centre in Chawkbazar.

Kawsar, who went to the exam centre alone, was nervous and screaming outside the centre holding her admit card. She neither had much money nor any confidence left to take prompt decision.

As usual, onlookers gathered around the crying girl, but no one came forward to help when Constable Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP)'s traffic division (North), who was off duty then, noticed the matter.

Jahangir went to the college to drop his son, also an HSC candidate. He promptly got the girl on his motorbike and travelled some 2km to help her find the Enayet Bazar Mohila College centre in Kotwali. Jahangir said, “My son Al Tanvir Alam, a student of Cantonment Public School, is also appearing in the HSC exams. So, I could easily realise what the girl was going through.”

“All the way, the girl was crying. Neither she nor I knew the exact location. But because of my job, I had knowledge about the exam centres in the city. It was my duty, both being a guardian and a policeman.” In February, ASI Shariful was praised in media for helping an SSC examinee find her exam centre in Brahmanbaria.
