Gsk Dhaka Half Marathon 2016 starts at Rampura Bridge tomorrow

Gsk Dhaka Half Marathon 2016, a popular event in the country, is going to take place tomorrow morning, organisers told a press conference yesterday.

The race, organised by Sports International and sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (Gsk), will start at 7:00am in the capital's Rampura Bridge area with over 4,000 people expected to participate.

The 21.1-kilometre race will end on Manik Mia Avenue after travelling some important parts of the city, including Hatirjheel, Bijoy Sarani and Agargaon, said Sports International's Manager Jonas Christopher Mendez at the press conference held at The Daily Star Centre yesterday.

Over 10 runners from different countries will participate in the event. Six out of 12 awards have been allocated for Bangladeshi participants in order to encourage them. All the participants will be given a medal, he added.

The competition is going to take place for the fourth time in the country and The Daily Star has been the youth engagement partner of the programme.

Rumana Ahmed, head of communications at Gsk, and Abu Hassan Chowdhury Prince, a sports organiser and adviser of Sports International, also spoke at the press conference.
