‘Govt plans to shift chemical factories outside Dhaka’

The government has planned to shift all chemical and plastic factories, electrical goods manufacturing factories and printing houses outside Dhaka for making the city livable, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu told parliament today.
“We have planned to shift all mills and factories of Dhaka out of the city to make it livable,” Minister Amu said while replying to lawmakers queries.
"Many plastic industries and printing houses had been established in Dhaka unplanned and environment unfriendly way. We are planning to shift all these factories and printing houses to Sirajdhikhan upazila in Munshiganj,” he said in a scripted answer.
Plastic industrial zone and printing industrial zone would be built there under Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), he said.
The process of establishing a chemical factory village at Keraniganj is underway. The chemical factories of highly populated old Dhaka would be relocated there, he added.
BSCIC is establishing an electrical good manufacturing industrial zone at Tangibari in Munshiganj for relocation of electrical goods manufacturing and light engineering industries from Dhaka, Amu added.
