Give Baishakhi allowance to journalists

DUJ urges all media houses

The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has urged all the media house owners to give Baishakhi festival allowance to their employees.

In a statement, DUJ President Abu Zafar Surja and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the government, non-government and private organisations to give the allowance.

Complying with the directive, some of the newspapers, news agencies, television channels and online news portals have been giving the allowance for the last two years.

“As per the prime minister's directive, we request you [all the owners] to give your employees Baishakhi allowance, 20 percent of their basic salary,” reads the statement.
