Fix medical test fees

Recommends ACC in its report

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recommended that the government fix maximum and minimum fees for medical tests at diagnostic centers across the country.

“ACC has often got allegations that doctors got 40 percent commission of total value of each diagnostic test. It is alarming,” said the commission in its annual report.

ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood yesterday afternoon submitted its "Annual Report 2017" to President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.

The anti-graft watchdog has also suggested increasing the duration of internship to two years and making it mandatory for all interns to give service at the upazila-level hospitals.

“If doctors do not work in upazila or union level, they should not be given permission for higher education,” reads the report.

The commission formed 25 teams to probe into irregularities of different government organisations including Titas Gas, Bangladesh Railway, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Biman, National Board of Revenue, Roads and Highways Department, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, Public Works Department and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk).

ACC has got 4,963 allegations in 2017 and completed enquiry of 1,445 allegations.

The commission filed 273 cases last year. They conducted investigation of 965 cases and approved charge sheet in 382 cases. The number of trap cases was almost doubled to 24 in 2017. According to the report, around 182 persons were arrested last year and 237 cases were disposed of.

After the submission of the report, ACC chairman told the journalists that they would continue arresting dishonest government officials through trap.
