Man masterminds son's killing to implicate neighbours in murder

As shocking as it might sound, a father had hired a murderer to kill his 12-year-old son in the capital's Badda area recently to take revenge on his two neighbours by implicating them in his son's murder case.

The father, Zahid alias Jahangir, 50, had planned the murder along with the alleged killer Abdul Mazid, 27. He bought a knife to kill his son, Aawsar, Mostaque Ahamed, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing yesterday.

Zahid planned the murder to take revenge on the two neighbours -- Helal Uddin alias Helu and Abdul Jalil -- as the duo earlier beat him suspecting that he had an extra-marital relation with the wife of a tea vendor, police said.

As part of the plan, on April 17, Mazid convinced Aawsar to go with him when the latter went to a tubewell around 10:00pm to fetch a bucket of water for a local poultry shop he was working for in Satarkul area.

Mazid then took Aawsar to a paddy field at Padardia and killed him by stabbing and strangulating, the DC said.

The next day police recovered the body and the victim's father Zahid filed a murder case accusing several people including the two neighbours.

While investigating the case, police scrutinised CCTV footage in the area and found that Aawsar was walking with Mazid, leading to the detection of the murderer, police said.

He said Mazid, who was arrested on April 20 from his Satarkul residence, has already made a confessional statement before a magistrate, narrating the killing and involvement of him and Aawsar's father.

Police has already arrested Zahid and filed a murder case showing him arrested in the case.

Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, said Zahid has also admitted that he had planned the murder.

The OC said Zahid used to work as a day labourer or sell tea on footpaths. Aawsar was the youngest among his two sons.
