EC will observe 'Voter Day'
The Election Commission has decided to dedicate one specific day to observe “Voter Day” to encourage the people to become voters like many other countries in the world.
However, which day will be specified in this regard is yet to be decided.
Helaluddin Ahmed, acting secretary of Election Commission, talked to journalists about the decision after a meeting at Nirbachan Bhaban yesterday.
At the meeting, the forthcoming Rangpur City Corporation election was discussed.
Ahmed said an election commissioner already visited Rangpur for conducting a survey on using electronic voting machine (EVM) in the polls and he talked to the voters.
It is yet to be finalised in which ward or centre EVM will be used and CCTV cameras will be set up, he said.
He also said Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda will visit Rangpur on December 7 and will hold meetings with candidates and law enforcers.
Regarding NID smart cards, EC secretary said those who had lost their NID cards need not to come to Dhaka for collection as those will be printed by 10 regional offices.
He also said the card distribution will start from December 1 in 37 districts.
