Akhaura-Agartala: Dhaka, Delhi officials meet on Aug 28 to review rail track progress

High officials of Bangladesh and India will meet in Dhaka on August 28 to give a push to complete the long delayed Akhaura-Agartala railway link, a project undertaken around seven years ago.

Official sources in Dhaka confirmed that the high officials  will sit together to facilitate expeditious completion of the US $145 million project for entry into or exit from India and Bangladesh.

In January 2010, during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to New Delhi, the two neighbouring countries had agreed to lay the 15km railway link.

The foundation stone was laid at Agartala railway station in July last year with an estimation to complete the project by 2017.
