CU remembers Prof Jamal Nazul

Marking the fifth death anniversary of famous scientist and founder of Chittagong University's Physical Science Research Centre Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam, an international conference was held on the campus yesterday.

Addressing a commemorative progarmme before the conference, titled “The 16th Chittagong Conference on Mathematical Physics 2018”, Vice-chancellor Prof Ifthekhar Uddin Chowdhury said Dr Jamal left his lucrative job in Cambridge University and joined CU as a faculty member due to his love for the country.

Prof Jamal worked with famous scientific writer and astrophysicist Fred Hoyle and some of his books, including "The Ultimate Fate of the Universe", are being used as text in reputed institutions, he added.

The participants paid a rich tribute to late Physicist Stephen Hawking and started the conference where national and international scholars presented 13 keynote papers.

Meanwhile, the university authorities inaugurated “Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam Museum” in the research centre building.

Pro-VC Prof Dr Shirin Akhter and Prof Suriya Islam, wife of Prof Jamal, were present among others.
