Coast Guard destroys 10 lakh yaba pills
Bangladesh Coast Guard yesterday destroyed over 10.05 lakh yaba pills and some liquor recovered last year by the force's east zone in Chittagong and different stations and outposts under the zone.
The seized drugs and beverages, including 1,549 cans of beer, 196 bottles and 39.2 litres of liquor, were destroyed at the Coast Guard base in Chittagong after disposal of related cases, says a press release.
Home Ministry's Public Security Division Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury and its East Zone zonal commander Capt M Wasim Maksud and top officials of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Chittagong and other agencies were present.
Meanwhile, highway police yesterday arrested two drug traders with 20,000 yaba tablets and seized a private car which carried them in Chakoria upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The detainees are Abul Kalam, 25, and Abdul Karim, 24, of Teknaf upazila.
Inspector Md Alamgir Hossain, in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost, said acting on a tip-off, a patrol team stopped the Chittagong-bound car and found the Yaba pills. Police filed a case with Chakoria Police Station against the two arrestees.
