Child worker killed in workplace accident

A child worker of a mosquito coil manufacturing factory died allegedly in a workplace accident in Shovapur area of Savar yesterday.

Victim's cousin Monira said Raihan Islam, 14, went to  Quazi Enterprises Ltd at night on a regular duty. In morning they heard Raihan was critically injured while conducting a machine.

Before they reach there the factory authority had already sent the body to Enam Medical College Hospital, she said.

On information, police rushed there and sent the body to Dhaka medical College hospital for an autopsy.

The Daily Star could not contact with the factory authority as the factory was closed for an indefinite period.

Hassan Mia and Ismail Hossin, security guards of the factory, said they heard news but can not comment on it.

Sub-Inspector of Ashulia Police Station Tonmoy Bishwah who recovered the body, could not be contacted as he did not receive repeated phone calls.

SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said they heard that a worker was killed while carelessly working in a machine.

Raihan, son of Rahfiqul Islam, hailed from Gaibandha.

No case was filed yet in this regard.
