Celebrations in Dhaka tomorrow

The government has chalked out a programme to celebrate the country's historic achievement of the eligibility to graduate to “developing country” from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

As part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Information will bring out a colorful procession from Doyel Chattar at 4:00pm tomorrow, which will end at the western gate of Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city.

The rally will consist of decorated vehicles, horse carts, orchestra, colorful banners, festoons and placards, the Ministry of Information said.

Besides, Dhaka University (DU) authorities will also hold a joyous rally on 'Smrity Chirantan' premises on the university campus to celebrate the achievement at 11:00am tomorrow, said a DU press release yesterday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will inaugurate and chair the rally, the release added.

DU Music Department will perform in the function.

Bangladesh has become eligible to graduate to a developing country from a least developed one as it has met all the three criteria for the first time for getting out of the LDC bloc.

The Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a United Nations panel, made an announcement on the country's eligibility at a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday.
