Bumper jute production expected in Faridpur
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of Faridpur district is expecting a bumper jute production in the current season.
Jute, the principal cash crop of the district, has been cultivated on 82,000 hectares of land with a target of producing 7.4 lakh bales of jute, the DAE sources said.
Last year jute was cultivated on 77,339 hectares of land producing about seven lakh bales of jute, they added.
The cultivators have been getting good price that has encouraged the growers to bring more land under the jute cultivation, the sources said.
The government has also framed a law for banning synthetic bags and the violators are supposed to face punishment.
Initially after the sowing of jute seed, there was an almost drought like situation, which was alarming for the farmers but that scare has been over because of sufficient rain and necessary humidity, the DAE sources said.
Harvesting will begin soon in all the nine upazilas, they added.
