BNP is playing politics over the issue of its party Chairperson Khaleda Zia's treatment, alleged Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday.

"She has been given medical assistance as per the jail code, and there were no negligence in her treatment. But the way BNP leaders talk, it seems that they are doing politics over the matter," Quader told reporters.

He was replying to questions by journalists after a contract signing ceremony of Package-5 and Package-6 of MRT Line-6 of the metro rail project, in a city hotel.

The home ministry and health ministries are there to take care if Khaleda's health deteriorates, said Obaidul Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Awami League.

“But the way BNP leaders Fakrul Islam, Moudud Ahmed and Nazrul Islam are talking, it seems they are all experts in medical science,” said the road transport minister.

Regarding ongoing protest demanding Khaleda's release from jail, the minister advised BNP to shun protests and take to the path of law.

"The legal battle is the only way to release Khaleda Zia," Quader said.

Terming upcoming city corporation elections in Gazipur and Khulna “semifinals” ahead of the JS polls, he said that the final will be in December.
