ACC sues 8 RHD officials

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed two cases against eight officials of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in Sylhet division and one contractor over allegedly embezzling around Tk 2 crore during construction work of Sylhet-Sunamganj road in 2015-2016.

Mojammel Hossain, assistant director, and Farid Ahmed Patwary, deputy director of ACC, filed the cases with Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet.

According to the documents of the first case, ACC accused Mohammad Rasel, former sub-assistant engineer; Tanvir Hossain, former sub-divisional engineer; Sheikh Manirul Islam, former executive engineer; Chandan Kumar Basak, supervising engineer; Iftekharul Kabir, former additional chief engineer; and contractor Lutfur Rahman, proprietor of Jonmobhumi Construction; over embezzling Tk 62.61 lakh.

In the second case, ACC accused Mashuk Ahmed, sub-assistant engineer; Anwar Hossain, former sub-assistant engineer; Abul Barkat Md Khurshid Alam, former sub-divisional engineer; Tanvir Hossain, former sub-divisional engineer; Sheikh Manirul Islam, former executive engineer; Chandan Kumar Basak, supervising engineer; Iftekharul Kabir, former additional chief engineer; and contractor Lutfur Rahman, proprietor of Jonmobhumi Construction; over embezzling more than Tk 1.13 crore.

Gousul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said both the cases have been filed under anti-corruption laws.
