7 drivers jailed for violating traffic rules

A mobile court in Narayanganj city yesterday sentenced 7 drivers of CNG-run autorickshaws for various traffic rule violations including illegal parking and driving without licence.
Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and the district administration jointly conducted the mobile court in the city's Chashara roundabout area from 3:00pm till 6:00pm.
Among the offenders, Ali Ashraf, 46, and Taijul Islam, 24, were given three months' jail term; Harun, 32, Zakir Hossain, 40, Masud Miah, 21, and Chan Miah, 25, one month's term; and Khokan, 24, was given 15 days' jail sentence. Another driver named Suman was fined Tk 500.
Jahangir Alam and Rifat Ferdous, executive magistrates of Narayanganj district administration, led the drive in the presence of Alamgir Hiran, chief waste management officer of NCC.
Executive magistrate Rifat Ferdous said, “The drivers have been carelessly operating CNG-run vehicles without licence for a long time, often resulting in road accidents. The drive of the district administration will go on.”
