Helper loses hand in bus-truck collision
A bus helper lost his right hand in a collision between a bus and truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj yesterday.
Hridoy Minar, 30, was sitting on the right side back seat of a Dhaka-bound passenger bus and his hand was slightly outside when the collision took place severing his hand from the body, witnesses said.
He was initially taken to Gopalganj General Hospital but later transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Meanwhile, at least six persons were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two days.
In Manikganj, Ansar member Tipu Sultan, 35, was killed after a bus hit his bike on Dhaka-Aricha highway yesterday, police quoted locals as saying.
Tipu succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, police said. The bus was seized, but the driver fled.
In Chittagong, Sajeda Begum, 42, was killed after being crushed under a fast moving vehicle on Dhaka-Chittagong highway yesterday. In another incident, the crushed body of an unidentified man aged around 40 was found near Borotakia Eye Hospital in Mirsarai upazila yesterday, police said.
In Munshiganj, Ali Akbar Hossain, 50, was killed after being hit by a lorry on Dhaka-Chittagong highway yesterday.
Police seized the lorry, but the driver fled.
In Dinajpur, college student Fatema Begum, 20, was killed when a speeding ran her over near Dhakamor in Phulbari upazila on Monday, police said.
