A total of 57 robbers, operating in the Sundarbans and nearby areas, surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at Labonchora in Khulna yesterday.

The robbers, belonging to six groups, surrendered along with 58 firearms and 1,284 rounds of bullets at the Rab-6 office, said Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, its commanding officer.

The minister also handed over a cheque for Tk 1 lakh each to another 58 robbers who had earlier surrendered to law enforcers. The money was donated for their rehabilitation as per the prime minister's instructions.

From 2016 till this month, Rab has arrested Sundarbans-based 572 robbers and seized 1,542 firearms and 33,186 rounds of bullets.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda and Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed were also present.
