A mobile court yesterday jailed 10 persons to different terms, and fined seven factories Tk 3.5 lakh at Tejgaon area in the capital, on charges of bottling water in unhygienic environment and marketing it illegally.

The mobile court, run by Rapid Action Battalion-2 and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) also seized 2200 gallons of unsafe water during the drive from 8:00am to 3:00pm in the area, said Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who conducted the drive.

“The 10 persons have been given different jail terms from six months to one year,” he added.

They were selling unrefined water in the name of filtered water, he said, adding that the seized gallons of water were discarded.
