West Bengal keen to export more electricity to Bangladesh
The Indian state of West Bengal has expressed interest to export more electricity to Bangladesh.
Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, West Bengal's power minister, shared the information at a programme in Kolkata, India on Thursday.
West Bengal, which has 8,963MW in surplus electricity, now supplies 250MW to Bangladesh and has been trying for long to double the amount.
A team of the West Bengal state government will meet with officials of Bangladesh's power ministry by next week, he said.
The power plants in West Bengal have been generating 6,601MW of electricity every day on an average and private power plants 10,386MW. During peak hours, the state needs 8,024MW a day.
