Job creation failing to keep pace with economic progress: analysts

The country's employment is not rising in line with its steadily increasing gross domestic product, analysts said yesterday.
The employment issue should be clearly outlined in the budget. Otherwise, the unemployment will keep rising, said Rashed Khan Menon, social welfare minister.
He came up with the observation at the “People's Budget Assembly2018” at the senate building of the Dhaka University on Sunday, said a press release.
The Democratic Budget Movement, the Parliamentary Caucus on National Planning and Budget, and the Centre on Budget and Policy of the university jointly organised the fourth edition of the event.
Menon said the national budget should reflect the Dalit, indigenous, differently-abled and backward communities. “The attitude towards them should also change.”
Fazle Hossain Badsha, vice president for the parliamentary caucus on national planning and budget; Md Abdul Wadud, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the food ministry; Zahid Ahsan Russel, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports ministry; Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid Bangladesh; Abul Barkat, president of the Bangladesh Economic Association; and Rashid-E-Mahbub, chairman of the national committee of Health Right's Movement, also spoke.
