Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), an autonomous public research organisation, will be offering post graduate degrees in development economics, revenue management and financial management from next year.

The Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies Bill 2016 that was passed in parliament on Wednesday made a provision for these subjects.

BIDS will soon send a proposal to Dhaka University to affiliate the institute to offer these degrees. In future, Ph.D degrees will also be given by BIDS.

Speaking at a press meet yesterday, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the bill raised the number of BIDS trustee board to 15 from 14 previously.

The Member of General Economics Division of the planning commission has been made a trustee board member of BIDS.

Whatever budget BIDS seeks for research and development will be given, the planning minister added.

If necessary, researchers will be brought in from abroad to conduct research at BIDS, he said.
