BNP-led 20-party alliance is still adamant to hold a rally in Dhaka on January 5 even though they couldn’t acquire any permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities in this regard yet.

A three-member delegation of the alliance went to the DMP office this morning to seek permission for holding the rally. They, however, did not receive any response from the police authority.

“We waited there nearly for an hour but no police officials met with us,” said Joynal Abedin Farroque, publicity secretary of BNP, after coming out from DMP office along with two other leaders.

Abdul Awal Mintoo, joint convener of BNP Dhaka city unit, and its assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony were there with Farroque.

The BNP-led alliance wants to observe January 5 as "Democracy Killing Day" and hold a rally in Dhaka, while the ruling party Awami League is set to celebrate it as "Victory Day for Democracy".

Earlier, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal warned that the BNP would not be given permission to hold the rally if there is any indication that it wants to create chaos.

Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Abdul Moeen Khan said that the alliance would hold the rally at any cost.
