The ruling Awami League said today BNP lied about the telephone conversation between its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday.
“We have information that BJP chief did not telephone Khaleda Zia though her party officially informed the media in this regard,” Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of AL, said at an emergency press briefing at the party chief’s political office in Dhanmondi this evening.
“It is nothing but falsehood of BNP which has become bankrupt and alone politically,” he added.
Referring to a recent fraudulent statement issued in the name of six US Congressmen, he said it has been proved again that BNP always resorts to falsehood.
The AL leader called upon the media not to publish such falsehood and remain alert about lies of BNP in future.
Agriculture Minister and AL Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury was also present at the press conference.
Meanwhile, sources at the Indian high commission in Dhaka also confirmed that no conversation was took place though attempts were taken two times from the BNP office to establish telephone link with Amit Shah.
On Thursday, Khaleda’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told reporters that Amit Shah telephoned the BNP chief on Wednesday night and enquired about her health condition.
