Shawkat Hossain Hiron

Awami League MP from Barisal-5 constituency Shawkat Hossain Hiron died at Apollo Hospitals in the capital this morning. He was 58.

Hiron, also a former mayor of Barisal City Corporation, breathed his last around 7:00am, hospital sources told The Daily Star Online.

He was undergoing treatment at the hospital since Thursday, the sources said.

The Parliament today unanimously passed an obituary motion on his death.

His first His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Jatiya Snagsad Bhaban premises around 4:00pm.

The lawmaker suffered a stroke on March 22, said Talukdar Md Yunus, lawmaker from Barisal-2 constituency, who is now accompanying the body.

Hiron was admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on March 24, a day after he was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, reports our Barisal correspondent.

On April 3, Hiron was brought back home. Afterwards he was kept at the Intensive Care Unit of the Apollo Hospitals as his health conditions deteriorated, family sources said.

He left behind his wife, one son and one daughter and numerous admirers to mourn his death.

He would be buried at his family graveyard in Bauphal village of Patuakhali on Friday.
