Man killed in Ctg over honking

A gang stabbed a youth to death in front of his father over honking in the city's Battery Goli area on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Anik, 26, son of Nasir Uddin, a driver by profession. He used to live with his family on Pantan's Road No 2 just opposite Dampara.

Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad of Chawakbazar police said the incident took place at 9:40pm when a group of 10-12 youths led by one Mohiuddin Tushar attacked Anik. They stabbed him following an earlier altercation over honking.

Sources said both Mohiuddin and Anik were involved in Jubo League, but the information could not be verified independently.

Kotwali Police Station's Office-in-Charge Mohammed Mohsin told The Daily Star, “An altercation occurred between Anik's younger brother Roni and a group of local youths of Battery Goli in the evening over honking his motorcycle that led to a scuffle.

“The groups left the spot sensing the presence of police,” he added.

OC Abul Kalam said the group later gathered near Anik's house that night and raised a hue and cry. At one stage, Anik and his father came out.

“Mohiuddin and his followers fired shots in the air and two of them stabbed Anik and left the spot,” he added.

Anik was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 10:00pm where doctors declared him dead.

A deep stab mark was found between his chest and abdomen, hospital sources said.

OC Abul Kalam said the victim's father filed a murder case against 12 named and 15 unnamed people.
