AL to hold extended meeting on June 23

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at the AL's extended meeting on Saturday is likely to issue guidelines for her party men ahead of the city corporation polls and national elections.
After more than one year, AL is going to hold the meeting just days before Gazipur city polls and about five weeks ahead of the city polls in Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Barisal. The national elections are likely in December.
The last extended meeting was on May 20, 2017, and it was dominated by intra-party conflicts and BNP-Jamaat men's infiltration into the party.
Members of the AL Central Working Committee, Advisory Council, National Committee, presidents and general secretaries of district, city, upazila and municipality units, party lawmakers and presidents and general secretaries of pro-AL organisations will take part in Saturday's meeting, to be presided over by Hasina at the Gono Bhaban.
Talking to The Daily Star, an AL organising secretary said the party would become busy with several elections, including the national polls, and that was why the party chief convened the meeting.
69TH ANNIVERSARY

The programmes including placing floral wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation at the Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi-32.
The national and political flags would be hoisted in front of the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue. Hasina would also inaugurate the party's newly constructed central office building there.
