Three workers were killed and five others injured as the roof of an under-construction refuelling   station caved in at Khanpukur   village in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Babu, 35, Golam Maola Liton, 48, and Saju, 30.

Quoting locals, Robiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, said that the under-construction roof of the refuelling station on Panchagarh-Thakurgaon road suddenly collapsed on the workers around 1:00pm leaving three dead on the spot.

Firefighters of Panchagarh unit rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and recovered the bodies from the rubble.

The five injured were sent to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital. Three of them were later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

 Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Mohammad Zaherul Islam has visited the spot and said they are taking steps for compensation of the victims as per the government rules.
