Elaborate programmes are being held in the capital today to mark National Film Day. Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) has chalked out celebrations to mark the occasion.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will inaugurate the programmes at 10am, while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as special guest. Lawmaker Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh and Information Ministry secretary Mortuza Ahmed will also attend. Members of the film industry will bring out a rally from the BFDC premises after the inauguration, which will be followed by a seminar at BFDC's floor no. 8.

Other programmes include a red carpet reception, live talk show, photo exhibition, film screening, and a fair – featuring puppets, nagordola, and bioscope. A vibrant cultural programme will also take place at 5pm.

On April 3, 1957, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the erstwhile Minister of Industries and Commerce of East Pakistan, introduced the East Pakistan Film Development Corporation Bill at the Constituent Assembly. To mark that day, April 3 is observed every year as National Film Day in Bangladesh.
