Aggrieved JCD men postpone agitation following assurance

Dissident JCD men have postponed their agitation till tomorrow following the assurance of BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that he would take the issue to party Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
A five-member delegation of the rebel leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal came up with the decision after an around 20-minute discussion with Mirza Fakhrul, also acting secretary general of BNP, at his chamber at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan of Dhaka this afternoon.
Tariqul Islam Tuku, a member of the delegation, said they would come up with fresh agitation if their demands for scrapping the JCD central committee and declaring a new one comprising of dedicated and tested JCD men are not met by tomorrow.
Rakibul Islam Royal, Habibur Rahman Suman and Masudul Azam were also among the delegation.
Earlier in the afternoon, JCD rival groups clashed and blasted crude bombs near the BNP headquarters over its newly-formed central committee, leaving at least 10 activists injured.
Mirza Fakhrul, Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other frontline leaders were confined inside after a deprived faction locked the main entrance the BNP office, reports our correspondent from the spot.
The faction deprived of a position in the new committee locked horns with those who got posts around 2:15pm. They were seen brandishing sticks and showing off near the office premises.
The clash ensued when BNP Dhaka city unit Member Secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel came out of the office and tried to talk to the rival groups.
At one point, two handmade bombs were exploded in the area and the BNP headquarters, which also houses the JCD office, were put under lock and key with the newly-elected JCD leaders confined inside.
