30 injured at Pabna clash

At least 30 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and an unidentified group of people at Pabna Polytechnic Institute in the district town this evening.
Most of the injured were BCL leaders and activists including the district organising secretary of the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, reports our Pabna correspondent.
Two of the injured were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as their condition was stated to be critical while others whisked off to Pabna Medical College Hospital.
The clash erupted this evening when a group of people attacked BCL leaders and activists who went to meet the institute principal to discuss some issues of the students.
Campus sources said the polytechnic students had been complaining to the principal for long about different disturbances by outsiders and harassment of female students.
The identity of the attackers was not clear immediately but the BCL leaders termed it a planned attack. They suspected that the attackers might be members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
