In the cases reported from Narayanganj, Sherpur, Pabna and Dhaka, the victims of 'mass psychogenic illness' are adolescent female students who felt headache, nausea, convulsion, pain in the chest and abdomen and difficulty in breathing.

Seventeen students of Amgaon Dabiruddin Bhuiyan High School went unconscious on Tuesday and Wednesday, our Narayanganj correspondent reports.

A medical team from Sonargaon Health Complex visited the school to treat the affected children who were later admitted to different hospitals.

In Sherpur Government Girls' High School, a student of class nine started feeling dizzy at about 8:00am yesterday.

Immediately after she fell unconscious, seven more girls followed, said Headmistress Mohsena Khatun.

The children went back home with their parents after a medical team led by Dr Parikkhit Par and Civil Surgeon Dr Narayan Prasad Chowdhury had treated them.

Meanwhile, 10 class nine students of Pabna Dublia Fazilatunnesa Girls' High School went unconscious at about 11:00am yesterday, reports our Pabna correspondent.

A student became senseless and while trying to help her, the others also fainted.

Two female students of Haider Ali High School at Mugda of Sabujbagh in the capital were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with the symptoms of mass hysteria.
