Join fight against corruption
Dr Kamal urges professionals in Sylhet

Veteran lawyer Dr. Kamal Hossain has called upon all professional groups to play their due role in eradicating corruption from society and help the Election Commission to prepare a correct voter list to hold a free, fair and acceptable election.

People want a corruption-free administration and a fair polls, free from money and muscle power. The caretaker government and the Election Commission are working to achieve these goals. The civil society and professional groups should extend all cooperation in this regard and motivate people, he said.

Dr. Kamal was addressing lawyers at Sylhet District Bar Association library on Thursday.

"There has been a wave of changes and reforms in different fields now. Rule of law is returning. We hope better days are ahead", he said.

"We will have to succeed in the war on corruption", he said. "Either the corrupts or the 14 crore peace loving people will survive".

The process of much desired separation of judiciary from the administration has already been started and we will have to wait for getting its benefit in real sense. "We want an administration free from corruption", he said.

The previous voter list had to be scrapped as it contained about two crore fake voters, Kamal said.

The EC should be neutral in real sense for holding a fair and acceptable election, he added.

The caretaker government works constitutionally and deserves support of professional groups, Dr Kamal said.

He also praised the role of lawyers and the media in the fight against corruption.

Everyone should remain vigilant and united so that the nation can get a fair voter list. Otherwise, the hard earned achievement will go in vein, Dr. Kamal said.

Sylhet Bar President Abdul Hai Khan and Secretary Ruhul Anam Chowdhury Mintu also addressed the function.
