The theme of the first session was 'Gene therapy: its science, prospect and challenges' while 'Stem cell research: Is it a tool for survival?' was the theme of the second session.

The MS Biotechnology students of the department presented a number of papers at the seminar. The seminar was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the Brac University Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Department Chairman Prof AA Ziauddin Ahmad and faculties and students of various departments of Brac University also attended the seminar.

Prof Naiyyum Choudhury, Coordinator of Biotechnology programme, conducted the session. Many issues related to ethical, legal and social aspects of these techniques were discussed in the seminar.
