Detained BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman yesterday told his lawyers that he thinks cases may be filed against his mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia. Tarique made the comment when a team of lawyers visited him yesterday at Dhaka Central Jail for the first time since his arrest. "I guess cases might be filed against my mother... she can be implicated in more cases in the coming days," Nasiruddin Ashim, a barrister of Tarique's legal defence team, told The Daily Star quoting him. Tarique enquired about his family members during the lawyers' visit, sources said. Tarique's lawyer yesterday filed a petition with the High Court for providing division to Tarique in jail After getting permission from a court, four lawyers talked to Tarique for about 25 minutes in presence of Senior Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Golam Haider and an officer of special branch (SB) of police. "We primarily discussed legal aspects of the cases filed against Tarique," Nasiruddin told The Daily Star. However, sources outside Dhaka Central Jail told The Daily Star that Tarique's lawyers entered the jail at 4:30pm and came out around 7:15pm. Tarique was arrested at Khaleda Zia's Dhaka Cantonment home on March 7 after a businessman filed an extortion case against him with Gulshan Police Station. UNB adds: An application seeking division in jail for Tarique is likely to be taken up for hearing in the High Court tomorrow. Nasiruddin Ashim has filed the application. The army-led joint forces arrested Tarique at his mother's cantonment residence on March 7 in connection with an extortion case.
