Five robbers beaten to death in N'ganj

A mob beat five robbers to death as they were trying to get away after robbing two cloth traders at Sonargaon in Narayanganj yesterday.

Police sources said the mob captured the robbers after their getaway microbus fell into a roadside ditch in Ambagh around 7:00pm.

When locals, not knowing that the vehicle was carrying robbers, rushed to the spot to help the microbus passengers, the robbers tried to run away firing shots in the air. Locals then chased down the robbers and beat them to death.

The identity of the dead could not be known immediately.

Earlier, the robbers robbed two cloth traders--Joynal Abedin and Abul Bashar--of Tk 16.20 lakh in Duptara when they were returning home after selling their cloths. The robbers ambushed them as the car carrying the traders reached there.

The two traders informed police about the robbery over cellphone. Police claimed they were chasing the robbers until their getaway vehicle fell into the ditch.
