Charges pressed against Aminul, Dulu, Nadim for patronising JMB

Police last night pressed charges against former post and telecommunications minister Barrister Aminul Haque, ex-deputy minister for land Ruhul Kuddus Talukhdar Dulu, former lawmaker Nadim Mostafa and 54 others for patronising militants of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh.

Sub-inspectors Muktar Hosssain and Shakil Hossain submitted the charge sheet with a first class magistrate's court in Rajshahi.

"Arrests of the former BNP leaders have become a matter of time only after framing of the charges," said a senior police official adding they are now waiting for the government's 'green signal.'

Fazlur Rahman, a farmer of Hasanpur village under Bagmara upazila, lodged a case against Aminul, Rajshahi BNP General Secretary Shis Mohammad and others with Bagmara Police Station on March 30.

In the complaint, Fazlur Rahman said the militants kidnapped him in April 2004 and forced him to pay ransom.

He alleged that the militants beat him after hanging his upside down from a tree. Aminul and Shis Mohammad held a meeting with JMB leaders and discussed about his punishment, the plaintiff added.

Ayub Ali Pramanik filed another case against Aminul, Dulu, Nadim and others with the same police station on April 1.

According to Ayub, armed militants led by Abdul Jalil Amin kidnapped him on April 7 in 2004 and demanded Tk 1 lakh as toll.

The complainant quoted Jalil as telling him during the torture, "We are engaged in eliminating outlaws as police is not enough for the job. We need money to function and our leaders identified you as a rich man. So you will have to pay the toll."

Jalil named Aminul, Dulu and Nadim as their leaders, said the plaintiff adding that he saw Bangla Bhai talking with the ministers and lawmakers over telephone frequently.
