Inspired by their senior team's massive victory against Bangladesh in the Cricket World Cup, Sri Lanka A handed a thumping 283-run defeat on their Bangladesh A on the final day of the four-day match in Colombo yesterday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match A Test series.Resuming their second innings on 110-3 at the picturesque Colt Cricket ground, the second string Bangladesh side who were 406 runs behind, battled nearly an hour with skipper Tushar Imran leading the way but eventually slumped to 233 all out early into the final session. However, once part-time off-spinner Malinda Warnapura -- who scored 242 in the Sri Lanka A first innings to set the tone for a massive victory -- gave his captain the break by removing nightwatchman Nazmul Hossain (11) with the total on 160, the Bangladesh middle-order was ripped open. Overnight nine, Tushar made a quickfire 54 off 68 balls featuring 11 hits to the fence before he was run out in addition of ten runs to the total. The visitors then lost Sahagir Hossain and Nadif Chowdhury without scoring to be tottering at 171-7 with both the wickets going to left-arm medium-fast Sujeewa de Silva who finished the innings with 4-69. Khaled Mashud delayed the inevitable with a sedate 11 not out from 63 deliveries while Mahmudullah Riyad contributed 38 off 42 balls.
