Inter-college debate begins

The Presidency University Inter-College Victory Day Debate Competition 2005 began at the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) auditorium in the city yesterday with a call to apply logic to everyday life.Twenty-three colleges are taking part in the weeklong competition organised by the Presidency University and the National Debate Federation. Inaugurating the event as the chief guest, Law Minister Moudud Ahmed called on the young generation to build a society based on logic, talent, wisdom and knowledge in order to survive in the era of globalisation and information technology. The practice of debate and logic also helps one to become a good parliamentarian, he said. Presided over by Pro-Vice Chancellor of Presidency University Prof M Harunur Rashid, the function was also addressed by Vice-Chairman of Presidency University and Chairman of Hosaf Group of Industries Moazzam Hossain, convener of the debate competition and head of the English department Dr Arifa Rahman, Chairman of National Debate Federation (NDF) Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron and its General Secretary AKM Shoaib. The participating colleges include Viqarunnisa Noon College, Holy Cross College, Harman Mainer College, Mohammadpur Preparatory College, Rajuk Uttara Model College, Siddeshwari Girls' College, Dhaka Imperial College, Daffodil International College, Tejgaon Women's College, Titumir College, Saint Joshep College, State College, Ahsania Mission College and Ananda Mohan College. The final of the debate competition will be held on December 18.
