The Board of Directors of East West University (EWU) has approved the design of the university campus recommended earlier by a five-member jury board, says a press release. The selected design was submitted by Riddhi Architects along with six other architecture firms in an open competition. Designs submitted by the Nagar Design and Development and the ACG Consulting & Central Builders and Architects obtained second and third positions respectively. The jury board was headed by Bashirul Huq. Prof Dr Alamgir Habib of Buet, Lee Chor Wah, deputy president of the Malaysian Institute of Architects and design director of TAK of Kuala Lumpur, Khan Md Mustapha Khalid and Dr Mohammad Farashuddin, founder vice-chancellor of East West University, were members of the board. Renowned Malaysian Architect Lee Chor Wah has recently spent four days in Dhaka for participation in the selection process of EWU Own Campus Design. He has visited the proposed EWU campus site as well as construction sites of several private universities. The bidding and the evaluation process for the EWU Campus Design were conducted in an open and transparent manner with the contesting designs being made anonymous through a coding system. The chairperson and each member of the jury board found the design submitted by the Riddhi Architects to be the best in their individual confidential rankings. The university is going to start the construction work soon on its seven bigha eight katha land adjacent to the BTV. It is aiming at moving to its own campus by late 2007. The campus will have a total covered space of 3,00,000 sq. ft., with all modern and scientific amenities.
