He made the call after the formal take over as the Archbishop of Dhaka through an installation liturgy at Saint Mary's Cathedral in the city.

Paulinus Costa thanked the journalists present at the ceremony and said, "You are the ones who can contribute to the process of unity."

"I do hope to contribute to establish unity, peace and justice among all people regardless of race, community and religion," he added.

The new Archbishop said, "God is the source of my strength. I have been appointed as the Archbishop to serve you and so seek your blessings and cooperation."

Several thousands of Catholic Christians, priests, sisters, brothers from across the country attended the installation liturgy.

As part of the installation, Archbishop Paul Chang-In-Nam, ambassador of Vatican in Dhaka, offered the grand mass.

Bishop Francis A Gomes and Auxiliary Bishop Paul Ponen Kubi of Mymensingh, Bishop Patrick D Rozario of Chittagong, Bishop Moses Costa of Dinajpur, Bishop Bejoy D' Cruze of Khulna, Auxiliary Bishop of Dhaka Theotonius Gomes and retired Bishop of Khulna Michael AD Rozario helped him in the liturgy.

Pope Benedict the XVI, spiritual leader of more than 1 billion Catholics around the globe, announced on July 9 the appointment of Archbishop Paulinus Costa who replaced Archbishop Michael Rozario.

Born in October 1936 at Gazipur, Archbishop Paulinus Costa studied Theology at Propaganda Fide College in Rome and was ordained priest on December 1963.

He obtained Ph.D. in Theology in 1981.
