Dutch-Bangla Bank stands by acid victims, divorcees
Dutch-Bangla Bank Foundation has extended financial assistance of Tk 10,000 each to 100 acid victims and 400 divorcees at a simple ceremony at the Osmani Memorial auditorium yesterday, says a press release. Special Guest Zakir Ahmed Khan, Secretary, Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, was present as chief guest as Minister for Finance and Planning M Saifur Rahman, chief guest of the function, could not attend the function due to unavoidable circumstances. Zakir Khan distributed the payment order/cheques to the victims. Zakir Khan in his speech lauded the munificent programmes of Dutch Bangla Bank. He said that this noble initiative will bring about a positive change in the lives of the victims if they successfully run the small scale rural enterprises. He said that the acid victims and the divorced rural women would not demand for further donation rather demand loan at a cheaper cost. He praised the bank's long term perspective for advancing loan to the victims at five per cent interest. The Dutch-Bangla Bank's programme will help the government reduce poverty, he said. He urged other financial institutions/banks to extend financial support to the disadvantaged group of the country like Dutch-Bangla Bank. Md Yeasin Ali, managing director of the Bank, also spoke.
