Machine Tools Factory posts profit

Once a losing unit, Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory in Joydebpur made a profit of Tk 6.03 crore in the last four years under the management of Bangladesh Army.This was announced by the managing director of Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory in his report to the standing committee on defence ministry that visited the factory yesterday. A press release issued by Parliament Secretariat said the 17th meeting of the committee was held at the factory boardroom with committee chairman Lt General (retd) Mahabubur Rahman in the chair. Among others, committee members State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Shahjahan Omar and State Minister for Finance and Planning Anwarul Kabir Talukder took part in the meeting. In his report to the committee, the managing director of the factory, which was opened in 1979, said the factory was shut down in 1994 due to staggering losses and other problems. In 2000, the factory was brought under the Ministry of Defence and Bangladesh Army took over its management. Under the management of Bangladesh Army, the factory produced products worth Tk 79.26 crore in the last four years, the report said.
