The Daily Star receives e-mail threatening to kill Hasina

An e-mail sent to The Daily Star yesterday threatened to kill Leader of the Opposition and Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina either in the US or in the country soon.

The e-mail reads: "Hello Sheikh Hasina, this is Al-Kaeda Group from your surroundings. Very soon, you will be killed by Al-Kaeda Group wherever you are. We want to (know) you through this newspaper about your death process. Be ready in USA or in Bangladesh. Yours enemy, Al-Kaeda Group Dhaka, Bangladesh."

Hasina is now in the US on a month-long visit and expected to return on November 21.

The reporting section of The Daily Star received the e-mail from (shahid ahamet) [email protected] at 3:44pm.

Earlier on August 24, three days after the grisly grenade attacks on an AL rally, the daily Prothom Alo received an e-mail that threatened to kill Hasina, claiming responsibility for the attacks.
