Jamal's Gallery
Capturing the essence of an artist

For artists, galleries play a key role --next only to their own creations. So when RIZBIZ conceptualised a gallery named Jamal's Gallery-- to promote Jamal Ahmed both home and abroad by organising exhibitions and managing his commercial aspects-- why don't we call it the start of a new era? No doubt it is a first of its kind in Bangladesh, since for the first time a gallery is dedicated to a living artist.

At the age of 48, the prolific artist Jamal Ahmed, has already participated in 46 solo and 30 group exhibitions both at home and overseas. So far he has done over 3,000 art works. Though he does realistic work, his paintings have a simple essence. His favourite subject is Pagla, which he can draw with his eyes shut.

A press conference was held at the Buriganga Hall of the Heritage Restaurant where Hasnat Abdul Hai, Syed Jahangir, Rafiqunnabi, Rizwan B Farouq and the artist met .

After the introductory speech by the entrepreneur Rezwan B Farouq, the artist Jamal Ahmed said, 'This initiative will inspire me to create more art works in future.'

' Art was at a very nascent stage in Bangladesh and the reason was the lack of galleries and the connections between artists and buyers. But now art is in the fast lane and this particular initiative will help to revive this art form a lot', said Hasnat Abdul Hai, an eminent litterateur.

' He is the most dedicated artist of his time and paints very regularly. After Sultan, only Jamal shows the courage to draw on such a big canvas,' said Syed Jahangir.

In his speech, eminent artist and cartoonist Rafiqunnabi said, ' It's an exceptional experience for the artists of this country that a gallery is named after a living artist. In particular, the commercial experience of the organisers will help a lot to promote artistes and their creations.'
